Glass is generally divided into oxide glass and non-oxide glass according to its main composition. There are few kinds and quantities of non-oxide glass in glass bottles, mainly chalcogenide glass and halide glass. The anions of chalcogenide glass are mainly sulfur, selenium, tellurium, etc. The glass bottle can cut off the short wavelength light line and pass through the yellow and red light, as well as the near and far infrared light, with low resistance and switching and memory characteristics. The halide glass of glass bottle has low refractive index and low dispersion, and is mostly used as optical glass.



Oxide glass is also divided into silicate glass, borate glass, phosphate glass, etc. Silicate glass refers to the glass with the basic composition of SiO2, which has many varieties and uses. Generally, according to the different contents of SiO2, alkali metal and alkali earth metal oxide in glass bottles, it can be divided into: ① quartz glass. SiO2 content is more than 99.5%, low thermal expansion coefficient, high temperature resistance, good chemical stability, transparent ultraviolet and infrared light, high melting temperature, high viscosity, and difficult molding. It is mainly used in semiconductor, electric light source, glass bottle photoconductive communication, laser and other technologies and optical instruments. ② High silica glass. The content of SiO2 is about 96%, and its properties are similar to that of quartz glass. ③ Soda-lime glass. It is mainly composed of SiO2, and also contains 15% Na2O and 16% CaO. Its cost is low and it is easy to form. The glass bottle is suitable for large-scale production, and its output accounts for 90% of the practical glass. It can produce glass bottles, flat glass, utensils, light bulbs, etc. ④ Lead silicate glass. The main components are SiO2 and PbO, with unique high refractive index and high volume resistance, and good wettability with metal, which can be used to manufacture bulbs, vacuum tube cores, crystalline Glassware, flint optical glass, etc.



Lead glass containing a large amount of PbO can block X-ray and γ Ray. ⑤ Aluminum silicate glass. With SiO2 and Al2O3 as the main components, it has high softening and deformation temperature, and is used for making discharge bulbs, high-temperature glass thermometers, chemical combustion tubes and glass fibers. ⑥ Borosilicate glass. With SiO2 and B2O3 as the main components, it has good heat resistance and chemical stability, and is used to manufacture cooking utensils, laboratory instruments, metal welded glass, etc. With B2O3 as the main component, borate glass has low melting temperature and can resist sodium vapor corrosion.
